This page is a informational page on care and feeding of horses and ponies.
Below you will find a few of my horses and ponies that I have purchased over the years. All of these animals came from private, well meaning, animal loving families that cried as their beautiful animal was loaded in my trailer. They were all VERY concerned that the animal was going to a loving home LIKE THEIRS. In my business, I see a lot of neglected animals, ALL of them from private, loving homes......I do not buy from the auction. These families were not purposefully neglecting their animals, but at the same time, they failed to educate themselves in proper equine nutrition. Throwing hay to a horse is not nearly enough to keep them healthy! Proper worming, dental work, nutritional suppliments, etc. are ALL part of taking care of your animals. I see a LOT of people paste worming their animals every 4-6 months, when it says right on the directions to use every 6-8 weeks (the gestation period of the larvae). So, some of the pictures you will see below are young horses that are not necessarily "unfed" but are malnourished due to improper care. Some "after" pictures are from just a few weeks  later on up to a few months and more. Some are just pictures of animals that had a change in their whole demeanor just by changing to my feed program and regular exercise (ridding them of stomach ills and grumpy attitudes) and not necessarily being underweight.
As you scroll through the BEFOR/AFTER pictures, please keep in mind that I not only feed these animals but also train/retrain them (if needed) to make them into something that will always have a nice home and not go through an auction over and over because no one can handle them. I give them a job and purpose in life other than being a pasture ornament or pet that gets to push humans around. There are not that many homes out there for pets that cost $200 per month to take care of.
You can open almost any horse type newspaper and see stories of unwanted horses being "turned loose", tied to peoples fences and in some cases tied to feed store gates in the middle of the night!
If you are a new horse owner and are not sure of how to properly care for your animal, please feel free to email me if you have any questions...........or please find yourself a qualified local trainer to help you. I always recommend that my first time buyers have a good trainer that is experienced in training HORSES and not just giving riding lessons.
