On this page you will find nice, all around using horses that are rider safe and in the Beginner to Intermediate range. Each horses description will specify what level rider it requires and why. If you see a horse that you like, please email or call for a consultation to see if you may be a match! I try to find the best possible match so that horse and rider will be happy. A happy horse is a good horse! I evaluate each one personally and then put different types of riders on them to see how the horse reacts. All horse have mandatory requirements to be on this page. They must tie, trailer, stand for farrier and be safe to pick up all 4 feet. No cribbing, weaving or kicking horses will be found at CowPony Ranch.

Meet "Wally" your friendly oversized dog! I bought Wally a few months back hoping to make a rope horse out of him but, although he shows much interest and excitement for it....he just isnt fast  or athletic enough to be a top level rope horse. So, it is time for him to find a nice family that is looking for a good trail horse and pet.

Wally seems to be bred for Western Pleasure as he moves like a pleasure horse in the arena. He will do some arena work, side pass, move off your leg, tie quietly, load in the trailer easily. He stands perfect for clipping, farrier, grooming, tacking up, etc. He is kind of wiggly if you bathe him with cold water......not his favorite thing but he knows what a bath is. I got Wally from a beginner rider that had him for a couple of years and mostly just sat on him as a passenger as he followed the other horses down the streets and trails. Previous to that I do not have information other than my own conclusions that this horse was well trained, probably with the intentions of showing him in western pleasure classes. That  being said, they also OVER trained him to the point that he doesnt really care much for arena work but if you put him on cattle or take him down the trail he comes to life. He will walk/trot/lope in the arena and do what you tell him to but Im sure he would never be an arena slave. He neck reins, picks up his leads, stops, backs, lunges, and more. I have hauled him to ropings where he was always quiet and eager to work bringing cattle up and putting away stray steers. He gets out of the trailer and is quiet in new places. My students would ride him all over during the ropings without supervision and never had a problem with him.

Wally loves the trail and will ride out alone or with other horses and is pretty brave. He isnt a big spooker, mostly just stops to look if something grabs his interest or wiggles in place if he is startled. He is great around traffic, dogs, cattle, etc.. He will ride in front or behind, NO JIGGING! Wally will also cross water and you can swing a rope over his head or drag a heavy log at the walk/trot or lope!

After being ridden by a passenger with no skills (his previous owner), he did learn to do things his own way instead of the riders way but since being with me he has learned that he can't be the boss. So, a confident advanced beginner under supervision and up would be best for him. It doesnt take much to make him mind, but sometimes he just needs a little reminder to make him do what you ask.

You can ride him with or without a tie down. He takes a low port grazing bit or hackamore. Wally is sound and barefoot, kind of rare to find now days. The only lumps, bumps or scars on him are a couple of wind puffs on his hind ankles and those are only there if he is left in a small pen without exercise.

I would like to see Wally go to an active horse family as a ladies, teens or mans horse. Some trail, some arena/obstacle courses would be good to keep his mind busy. He hates to stand out there in his pen and be ignored.
Wally is priced at $4500 but I am negotiable to the right home.
